FAQs
A good rule of thumb is 8–10°F per briquette. For griddle cooking at 450–500°F, start with 45–50 briquettes and adjust as needed based on conditions and your desired cooking temperature.
Yes. The INDE Stove can be used for baking, roasting, and other indirect-heat cooking methods. For best results, maintain a cooking temperature between 200–300°F and position the cooking rack in the middle or upper rack locations to help prevent overcooking the bottom of your food.
This works well for items such as:
- Biscuits
- Cornbread
- Rolls
- Desserts
- Casseroles
- Roasted meats and vegetables
As with any outdoor cooking, cooking times and temperatures may vary based on weather, elevation, and fuel type.
For griddle cooking, preheat the INDE Stove to 450–500°F. This temperature range is ideal for cooking breakfast favorites, burgers, sandwiches, and most everyday camp meals. For best results, avoid exceeding 550°F to prevent damage to the griddle surface.
Tip: Wait until open flames have died down before placing the griddle on the stove. Open flames can reach temperatures high enough to permanently damage the griddle.
Charcoal briquettes typically provide a stable cooking temperature for up to 2 hours in the INDE Stove. Actual burn times will vary based on the type of charcoal, outdoor temperature, wind conditions, and cooking temperature.
For most meals, a full load of briquettes provides plenty of time for cooking, and often enough remaining heat for desserts or additional dishes.
Yes. The INDE Stove is designed to work with both wood and charcoal briquettes, giving you flexibility based on your cooking style and available fuel. When using wood, start with dry, seasoned wood for the best heat output and reduced smoke.
For safe and efficient operation:
- Use only clean, untreated wood.
- Follow all local fire restrictions and burn regulations.
- Allow flames to settle before cooking when possible.
- Never leave the stove unattended while in use.
Keep in mind that wood fires can produce less predictable temperatures than charcoal, so you may need to adjust fuel and airflow to maintain your desired cooking temperature.
